I think there have been some mods to more well known games (Minecraft comes to mind, an Unreal Engine based game, and possibly others I am forgetting).

A few members here are working on some interesting projects. Hopefully they will have something to mention soon

I was actually running two mods a long time ago, one for Freelancer and one for C&C Renegade, adding UA goodies.

Ren was easy; it has native support for nearly all functions Urban Assault would call...
Freelancer required a bit more creativity on my part... planes, bombers and Host stations were easy to recreate but that game has no ground vehicles or animated parts; I had to think WAY outside of the box for choppers and godvorbiss Tanks..

Yes, there was... But I think it was never finished. It was posted on BZ2MD.com which seems to be gone for good.
