1: Why We Have These Rules

These rules exist so that we can keep this forum a useful, constructive, professional place for discussion or Urban Assault and related topics. Please read these rules before posting on these forums and follow them so that this forum may remain a productive and supportive community for Urban Assault.

These rules DO NOT exist to let the Big Bad Admins can seize power and terrorize the forums and do whatever they want. They're here so that you know when the administrators and moderators will take disciplinary action. These rules ARE NOT here to infringe on your freedom of speech. We know that perhaps your government guarantees you your freedom of speech. However, we ask that in joining this community, you agree to refrain from using some aspects of your freedom of speech that may harm others and this forum - if you do not agree, then you may be made to leave.

In short, the rules exist so that the staff can keep this forum a healthy community and useful source of information that is enjoyable by all.

2: General Forum Behavior

2.1: Keep your posts understandable
This is a forum, not an instant messenger program or a chatroom. Because of this, there is a basic standard of intelligibility that we expect of posts.
Please make your best attempts to use proper grammar and spelling, including capitalization and punctuation. IM-speak such as using "u" for "you", "r" for "are" should be avoided for this forum. Write in complete sentences instead of the jumble of words typical of IM-speak.
If English is not your best language, we will be understanding, but we ask that you please make an effort to make your posts as presentable as possible.

2.2: Respect
Treat one another with professionalism and respect, as if you were talking to a family member or a friend. Interact with one another in a civilized manner. Keep any criticism constructive and tactful. Maintain this respect even when you disagree with other users.

2.3: Inappropriate content (spamming, trolling, flaming, etc.)
These are some kinds of inappropriate content that do not belong on these forums. "Spamming" consists of posting unsolicited or unwanted messages, often repeatedly and containing advertisements for unrelated products.
"Trolling" consists of posting provocative messages, usually with the intent to invite an angry response or stir up controversy.
"Flaming" is a hostile or insulting action directed at another member, or multiple members.
These actions will not be tolerated on this forum in any way, including your avatar, username, post content, and signatures. If you post inappropriately, you may be warned, placed in the Drones group, or banned. What exactly constitutes inappropriate content is up to the discretion of the staff.

2.4: No useless posts
Posts on the forum should add content to the topic, instead of a one-word post, a post that only contains emoticons/smilies, or a superficial message such as "I agree!" Posts like this clutter the forum, devalue the "Show new posts" function by filling its output with useless posts, and generally have little purpose rather than raising a user's post count. As such, they should be avoided.

2.5: No continuous posting
Do not repeatedly post many messages in any topic. If you need to add information to a topic, and you are the last person to post, edit your post instead of making another post. If at least 48 hours have elapsed since your last post in the topic and you feel you need to bump it, you may post a second post.
However, even in such cases, do not exceed two posts in a row. One can avoid exceeding two posts in a row by copying the content of their last post, deleting that post, and then reposting again, pasting the contents of the previous post and adding on any new information. This procedure bumps the topic, keeps the old information intact, and adds any new information the user may have had, without resulting in a long stream of posts from the same user.

2.6: No stalking or harassment
Posting a message to someone or private messaging someone repeatedly when that person doesn't want you to is stalking and harassment. Respect others' privacy by not stalking or harassing others, or you may be subject to discipline. Sexual harassment is grounds for an immediate and permanent ban.

2.7: On Cursing
Stoudson Corporation has no bright-line restrictions on cursing, and we are understanding of the fact that sometimes it is necessary to express anger or frustration, but we request that you use your common sense. Do not use cursing for the purposes of insulting others. Sentences that contain a curse word every other word are likely excessive and unnecessary. If it offends a staff member, you will be asked to tone it down.
Currently, for the staff's amusement, only word curse word is censored currently ("Gently caress"). Please do not abuse curse words to the point where it becomes necessary to impose more censors.

2.8: Illegal Material
Urban Assault and Metropolis Dawn are no longer available for purchase, and as a result they are provided on the downloads section of this site. However, do not ask for other games or other illegal software or files, including "warez" and MP3 songs. Links to the above materials will be removed and may be subject to suspension or ban.
Pornography is not tolerated on this forum. Posting pornographic images or providing links to porn sites are grounds for an immediate and permanent ban.

2.9: Leave Trouble to the Staff!
As a rule of thumb, if somebody insults you in an offensive and hostile manner, do not try and act tough to defend yourself or others. Likewise, if someone breaks a rule, don't post a reply scolding the poster for breaking the rules. This is a job left to the staff. Use the report button or use Private Messages to contact the staff to take care of the issue.

3: Forum groups

3.1: Administrator
Administrators manage the forums with the administration panel. They make the rules and are the main authority on the forums. They can appoint moderators and can give out the most serious punishments, including banning and the Drones group.

3.2: Global Moderator
Moderators are appointed to monitor discussions and ensure that they remain productive and constructive and within the rules laid out above. They maintain the forums, and can move, sticky, and lock/unlock threads.

3.3: Forum Moderator
These are moderators who are assigned specifically to a certain forum or forums, and only have their moderator tools for those specific sections of these forums.

3.4: Veteran
These are exemplary members who have served the community for an extended period of time. More information is available in the Veteran thread.

3.5: Drones
This is a disciplinary group. Members in this group receive restricted forum privileges compared to normal members. Most significantly, they cannot create new topics. However, they may still participate in forum discussions.

3.6: Mykonized Ground
These members are permanently banned. They may not use this forum or participate in discussions. With rare exception (accidental bannings), this group is usually permanent. Temporarily banned (suspended) members do not have a special group, but usually are placed in the Drones group concurrently with their suspension.

3.7: Don't ask
Promotions to staff are based on necessity. If we have no openings and do not need a new staff member, there will be no promotions. Promotions to both staff and veterans are based on overall merit. Your contribution to these forums and the Urban Assault community as a whole, including UAHQ, will be considered, and if we find you worthy of the position, we will notify you. Don't call us, we'll call you. In short, do not ask to become staff or a Veteran.

Similarly, do not publicly ask about a member in the Drones group or how he/she got there, and do not mock a member for being in the Drones group, or you risk becoming a Drone yourself. If you are a Drone, you may ask an admin for clarification or reasons, but do not ask about anyone else. Privately asking another member about how he/she became a Drone is allowed if you feel the member is willing to share the reasons, but be aware that if the member feels he/she is being mocked or harassed, you may be disciplined. Disciplinary actions will remain private between the staff and the member in question, unless the member chooses to share them. The staff does not have the time to answer constant questions about why a certain member was punished.
