The long hymn part of Track 6 (Taerkasten theme) can be also heard during the title sequence of the 2003 documentary series 'Secrets of Archaeology'.

Now I am genuinely curious... does anyone know how UA developers designed those in-game sounds? I am aware that the majority of UA sounds is proprietary and exclusively created only for the game. However, just like many other classic/retro games, there are several sound effects and loop samples that were possibly taken from a particular sample library (such as VST Sound Instrument Sets) or sample packs which the sound designers probably had access to with their audio software. :?:

Currently I'm thinking on Steinberg Cubase because that is what the most German game developers used, but I cannot sure...

I'm pretty sure many of the classic sounds are from Spectrasonics Symphony of Voices and Distorted Reality. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to get my hands on them since they are rare and pretty old and expensive. Which is a collection of stock sounds. Silent Hill composer used them as well: http://silenthillforum.com/viewtopic.ph ... ilit=music

Let me find the song/part in the movie:

http://fotactix.com/FoDL/Urban%20Assaul ... ertone.mp3 Listen to this and this should sound very familiar. This is from a stock sounds CD as well.

Unfortunately, it is always a little disappointing to learn that soundtracks we love tend to be a mix rather than composed from scratch.

Thank you for your enlightening answers, FoTacTix! :D It was very helpful for me.

I was constantly under the impression that the UA soundtracks are indeed mostly based on particular loop samples (all tracks generally contain nearly identical repeating sections); and especially, if they are truly loop based works then I was also curious about which sound libraries that these samples were possibly brought from.

In the two examples you provided, I can recognise the conspicuous similarities between the UA soundtracks (a prayer part from Track 6 and a wind part from Track 4). :P

Now I believe that many sound effects used in UA soundtracks are actually derived from several stock sound libraries produced by various music software companies long time ago, such as those legacy libraries from Spectrasonics you mentioned.

Nonetheless, it is very interesting to know how these soundtracks were produced... For some reason, I also have a feeling that the radio SFX used in unit speeches are taken from particular sample libraries as well...
